Is there some kind of competition going on among the ruling bosses as to who first chokes the legitimate liquor business in the country? After Bihar going bone-dry, Kerala going for partial prohibition and Tamil Nadu closing hundreds of licensed liquor shops, it is now Haryana which has come out with dubious excise policy that will do nothing but seriously hurt the liquor trade. It is beyond any logic to create a super distributor for entire Haryana thereby encouraging a monopoly. Have we not learnt any lesson from UP where for the last 10 years liquor business suffered only because an all powerful ‘super’ distributor. Those wanted to do business in the big state of UP had to suck up to him and his cronies, else some stayed away from the state.
The UP-story will soon be repeated in Haryana and this augurs not well for the trade.
